Winter vaulting is going on after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It was great to get some last days of outside vaulting in October and November but now we are inside for several months. How great to do so many good vault drills and high bar work. It was especially great to highlight Sergey Bubka’s birthday with a “Sergey Quiz”.
2011 outdoor season went pretty well, despite the rain. Both the boys and the girls were Springboro Relay champions for the three person pole vault relay. Our boys three person relay broke the school record on two occasions. Our top marks for boys and girls were some of the top marks in the area with Zak Kruer #2 on the all time Miamisburg list at 14-6. Laura Shaw made 9-0 a number of times and is #3 on the all time Miamisburg list. Both Laura and Zak placed in the district and GWOC meet with Zak pulling off a big upset for the GWOC championship. He also finished second in the regionals and qualified for the state meet.
This time warp super slow motion video of a woman going twelve feet is really terrific to watch. Many thanks to the Discovery Channel for this: http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/time-warp-pole-jumper-2.html
Lots of personal bests were set in 2010 as we had a tremendous outdoor season. We are still celebrating Jon Garrett’s GWOC overall championship with his 14-0 vault, #2 all time in Miamisburg history (at that time). Zak Kruer cleared 13 feet and gave Miamisburg the only two vaulters over 13 feet in the area. They have cleaned up at relay meets all over the place and set a school relay record for two people. John Fontaine & Zach Marcott were amazing at the Wayne Warrior Relay meet. They both had a tremendous vauting day and improved by a foot each!!! How great to have our JV vaulters beat the varsity vaulters of 15 other teams! Kennedy Peters had a big pr of 8-0 to go to a tie for #4 on the all time Miamisburg list. Elizabeth Steingass improved dramatically and ended up #7 on the all time list.
Wow, this pole vault video has really challenged the way we think. It is the clip of a 67 year old woman vaulting 10-6. What do you think about this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbcub-nR7-U
“To dream anything that you want to dream. That’s the beauty of the human mind. To do anything that you want to do. That is the strength of the human will. To trust yourself to test your limits. That is the courage to succeed.” Bernard Edmonds
Remember: don’t limit your challenges... challenge your limits!
