Congratulations to Donnie Whyte who has attended worship here at St. Jacob. He and his teammates qualified for the nationals in the 4x800 relay!
Go Cody Callison and Jordan Townsley They were really sharp at the February 4th indoor meet at Cedarville University. They both ran great legs on their 4x800 relay and then excelled in another event. Jordan’s other event was the mile and Cody ran a nice 400. Congrats to our freshmen hurdlers who had a nice first meet over the high school barriers. Nice effort was put forth by all. We continue to be excited about all the people who are attending the pre-season conditioning days.
Tipp City vault extravaganza was a good start for our vaulters and the new season. Laura Shaw tied her personal best and nearly qualified for the indoor state meet!
Pre-season Track conditioning is off to a great start. We had 61 on the first day! If everyone keeps training hard and preparing well we will have another very successful season.
XC awards banquet was another great event It was a fantastic night of eating wonderful food and honoring wonderful athletes. What a great season we had! Congrats to MVP Jordan Townsley and Michael Melko and to all our all-league and all-district athletes: Quentin Mullen, Stephanie Mee, Curtis Carmack, Jayme Mettle, Corey Dillon, Elliot Zech and Anna Flores. It was a great honor for Pastor Hout to be a part of it all.
State Meet near Columbus This was the first year for the state meet at National Trail Raceway. Sadly, no Vikings from Miamisburg were there. Many from our conference were there including the Beavercreek girls who came home with the runner-up trophy! Springboro was fourth and Centerville was 12th in the girls race. Syndey Leiher paced Beavercreek with a third place finish. Lebanon had two in the top ten with Jacqueline Crow (8th) and Hayley Stegmoeller (10th) In the boys race the Centerville team finished 15th. Top individuals included Jordan Redd (17th) and Josh Steible (41st). Can you believe Tippecanoe’s Sam Wharton finished second? Here is one more amazing fact: with 10,000 spectators this is the largest cross-country meet in the nation!
Regionals at Troy We live in an area that is very very competitive in cross-country. Still, our girls and boys ran well and did their best against this tough competition. Quentin Mullen came within a few spots of making it to the state meet and Michael Melko was right behind him. Everyone on the girls team ran near their best and had a respectable finish, but were not able to qualify for the state meet. Sadly, the season is officially over. Now we will meet one more time at the awards banquet on November 16th.
District The ground was a little soft but after all the rain we had this week the course was in amazing shape. Many of the Burg runners were ready and responded with Regional qualifying performances. Congratulations to the girls team. They finished third and qualified for the big regional meet in Troy. The boys team was just nosed out of a qualifying spot but Quentin Mullen and Michael Melko both made it as individuals to the next level.
League championships The GWOC meet was this past week and the Miamisburg harriers were ready for some serious running. There were lots of personal bests and the boys nearly pulled off a repeat of their championship from last year. They lost by a mere four points! Special congrats to Michael Melko who was the GWOC south runner of the year. Quentin Mullen joined Mr. Melko on the all-GWOC first team. For the girls, Jordan Townsley also made first team all-GWOC.
The Centerville Stampede was this past weekend and it was a little bit of an awkward time for our girls. This was homecoming weekend and they were given the option of running or not. Some chose to run the earlier JV races and Stephanie Mee cleaned up by winning her race. She also received some nice press in the Dayton Daily News. Annie Peters looks to be over her bug as she led her race most of the way before finishing a strong fourth. The boys team was OK but Lebanon ran a good race to nip them. Is this the first GWOC South team to be us in the last two years? We hope to turn those results around at the conference meet this weekend.
Fairmont Invitational We survived this classic meet with their big hill, but what a cold day it was. Still, our Miamisburg runners ran well and showed their stuff. Quentin Mullen and Michael Melko ran well in 3rd and 5th position. Jordan Townsley ran with the front pack in the girls race and finished 5th. The course was a muddy mess but somehow Bailey England and Rachel Hamlett set personal bests!
The Troy Invitational featured a new course that runners were anxious to see since as this will be where we run the regionals. Michael Melko and Quentin Mullen finished 3rd and 4th in a competitive boys race. The girls did not have anyone that near the front but they ran together as a great pack and finished second overall! Congrats to our girls and all the runners who gave it their best.
The Alliance Invitational was a great race for our boys and girls. We had 25 personal bests! The top five girls posted the second best average in school history. What a great effort by all the boys and girls. St. Jacob’s own Grace, Kristina and Hannah Steingass all had personal records. And in a college meet down the road at Cedarville College brother Jonathan Steingass also ran a pr. Interestingly enough, there were three Miamisburg runners involved in that meet. Jonathan ran #7 for Wright State, Donnie Whyte ran #4 for University of the Cumberlands and (get this) Jenna Parlette ran #1 for Wilmington College!
